Description
This easy tomato basil sauce is perfect for pasta, pizza, or as a flavorful dip.
Ingredients

- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 4 cloves fresh garlic, minced
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 28 oz canned whole San Marzano tomatoes
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves, torn
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tsp sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and chopped onion; sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.
- Crush canned tomatoes by hand and add them to the skillet with their juices.
- Season with salt, pepper, and sugar if desired. Stir well.
- Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 20-30 minutes until thickened, stirring occasionally.
- Remove from heat and stir in fresh basil leaves.
Notes
- This sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
- It can also be frozen for later use.
